Top Ten Tuesday|Books I’d Give Different Titles To

Top Ten Tuesday-38.png

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

1) Defiance Falls Revolution by Ali Dean

I am just not a fan of this title. I do not think it sounds good together or flows well together. Plus I felt like the book didn’t really have to do with a revolution except maybe at the like last page. I would retitle this hm something like Strike Back.

2 & 3) The Elite and The One by Kiera Cass

Both of these titles just give the whole series away. I read this series for the first time this year and I knew everything was going to be okay and that America and Mason would end up together because the second and third book titles basically gave it away. I would probably rename the second one hm I honestly don’t know lol but I would not pick a name that basically gives away the whole series.

4) Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver

Okay this is not a serious one at all and more of me poking at the book. I would rename this Confusing End because I found this end quite confusing. I did not understand what happened and I had to look it up.

5) The Book Jumper by Mechthild Gläser

I don’t think there is really anything wrong with this title in particular. I just feel like The Book Traveler sounds a little bit more appealing, at least to me anyways.

6) Dead Letters by Caite Dolen-Leach

The title stays true to the book but I feel like there could be a better title that is more true. Whats that title you say? Well you are in luck because I happen to have it. I think this book should be titled From A to Z.

7) Salvage Rat by Larry N. Martin

Having the word rat in a title is just unappealing. I would change the title to Salvagers because it still fits the book and doesn’t have the word rat in it.

I didn’t quite reach ten today but thats okay.

What book title would you rename?

Top Ten Tuesday|Character Traits I Love

Top Ten Tuesday-34.png

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

There are always certain traits the characters have that we love, here are my favorite traits that I like to see in a character…

1) Sarcastic/Witty

I love what a character is sarcastic, I think it makes the book more funny and its always fun to see what the character is going to say next because I feel like with sarcastic characters everything they say can be a surprise aha

2) Brave

I love me some brave characters who aren’t afraid of the consequences and do what is right

3) Nerdy

I love when a character is a bit nerdy aha, I tend to relate more to those characters so I always love when a character is a little nerdy

4) Deceitful

I think characters who are deceitful give the book a little something extra because you aren’t really sure what they are going to do or who they are going to betray and what those actions will befall. I feel like deceitful characters always provide a good plot twist too.

5) Grumpy

I find grumpy characters to be funny which is mainly the only reason I love this trait. Unless they are solely grumpy then I find it a bit annoying but if they are grumpy a little under half of the time then I find it a bit amusing

6) Adventurous

Its always fun to read about an adventurous character and travel along with them in their adventures!

7) Loyal

I love it when a character is loyal to their friends and all those who matter and I think its just so awesome to see how much they care for those people and the things they are willing to go through and do for those characters(which ends up hearing my heart sometimes).

8) Suave

I seriously just fall in love with almost to all characters who have this character trait. It’s like I’m introduced to a character who has this trait and instead of love at first sight its love at first trait aha(I have no idea if that makes sense I just hope it really does lol).

9) Arrogant

I do not like when characters are so arrogant that it is really annoying. I like characters that are like a medium amount of arrogance, like Jace, I think he has a good amount of arrogance like its not so much its annoying but its not so little that its hardly there.

10) Funny

There is nothing like a funny and jokester of a character to lighten the mood of the book and provide a good laugh.

What are your favorite traits to see in a character?

Top Ten Tuesday|Favorite Tropes

Top Ten Tuesday-22

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

I am excited for this prompt! Everyone has their favorite and least favorite tropes and I am looking forward to talking about my favorites!

1) Hate to Love

I love love love this trope. It is my favorite and will always be my favorite. I will pretty much read any book with the hate to love trope, I just love it!

2) Love Triangles

I enjoy these when they are done right like The Infernal Devices series. I think its fun to have a favorite guy that you want to end up with the main character and rooting for them. Along with talking to your friends about which is the better person for the main character.

3) The Chosen One

I don’t think you can go wrong with this trope. To me this trope is such a classic and its one I see myself always enjoying.

4) Secretly Royalty

Yes.. Yes. Yes. Thats all I have to say. I love me some secret royalty. One thing that I like about this trope is watching the main character get a grip on all the royalty protocols and struggling with it and then they overcome it and show them like who’s boss

5) Bad Boy Next Door

I blame Wattpad for feeding my addiction to this trope😂 I just love seeing the bad boy turn a little soft because of the girl and I just think its sweet to see the other side of the guy when he falls for the girl

6) Fake Boyfriend

I’ve read two books with this trope and absolutely loved them! Theres just something sort of fun seeing the two main characters act like a couple but not being a couple and then seeing them form that connection and become a couple. I love that moment when they realize they have feelings for each other and they make it official!

7) Friends to Lovers

Again, shoutout to Wattpad for feeding my love for this trope. I’m going to say it again but I don’t care, I love watching the two of them fall in love with each other and do all these firsts with each other. Books with this trope I feel are just sweet and easy and enjoyable to read. When I read books with this trope I can’t help but find myself smiling because these two people who have been friends since forever are finally realizing their feelings!

8) Magic School

Who doesn’t love learning about a new magic school that you so desperately want to be apart of? Its fun to see the different magic schools authors come up with.

9) Unlikely Friendships

I think one of my favorite parts of this trope is there is usually banter between the two characters and I live for banter. Its also fun to see the friendship evolve into something life changing and become a strong relationship

10) Unknown Powers

I like the character growth that mostly come with this trope. The character usually struggles with this newfound power and sometimes the morals of it and all. But then they have this character growth throughout the book(s) and I just love seeing that character growth.

So there are my top ten favorite tropes! Imagine if one book included all these tropes, that would be wild. On second thought, maybe I’ll try something like that for fun aha!

What is one(or more) of your favorite trope(s)?

Top Ten Tuesday|Book Characters I’d Love to be Besties With

Top Ten Tuesday-19.png

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

Hey everyone hows it going!? Its been a hot minutes since I’ve done one of these but I’m back from camp so I’m back to working on the blog. I’m excited for this top ten Tuesday because there are so many characters I’d love to be besties with!

1) Kenji Kishimoto from Shatter Me

Kenji just seems like the ultimate best friend. In the books we get to see him with Juliette and their bestie dynamic and I would love to have that in my life.

2) Magnus Bane from The Mortal Instruments

Okay Magnus would be such a fun friend to be besties with. I feel like Magnus would bring just such a fun element to everything and it would never be a dull moment with him.

3) Nina from Six of Crows

I don’t really have specific reasons for why I would want to be besties with Nina. However I just know she would make such an awesome bestie.

4) Mor from A Court of Thorns and Roses

Mor would be such a fun friend! She is such a bada** and I feel like she’s just one of those people who when in the presence of you just feel immensely cooler.

5) Amren from A Court of Thorns and Roses

I would want to be besties with Amren because of her loyalty and how when I needed her I know she would come through.

6) Hermione Granger from Harry Potter

I mean, I honestly would just talk books with Hermione all day and I’m completely okay with that lol. I feel like I share some common characteristics with Hermione that would make us work really well as besties and we would get a long super well

7) Simon from Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Simon just seems like a sweet friend to have. And while I was reading the books I kept thinking how I would love to be friends with him and even his whole group

8) Audrey Rose from Stalking Jack the Ripper

I want to become a medical examiner and thats what Audrey Rose wants to be so we have that connection that I think we would really bond over which would be fun.  She is also just super cool I would definitely love to be besties with her

So this list is a little short of ten but thats okay. If any fairy or witch is out there reading this, please make one or all of these characters come to life so I can be besties with them, thank you!

Who are some characters you would love to be besties with?

Top Ten Tuesday|Books on My Summer 2019 TBR

Top Ten Tuesday-13.png

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

So I don’t really set TBRs because I am a mood reader. However I am going to camp so I will share the books I am bringing with me.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy by Jenny Han

I’ve had this trilogy on my shelf for maybe a year to two but this year I am determined to get to it!

The Rose and the Dagger by Renée Ahdieh

I read the first book in this trilogy earlier this year and then I bought the second book but for some reason I haven’t read it yet. But I don’t want to wait any longer so I’m finally going to get to it!

All the Wandering Light by Heather Sawcett

I read Even the Darkest Stars right when it came out and loved it! But I am horrible at continuing series so I haven’t read it yet. But I’m excited to dive back into this world this summer!

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

I just got this book recently but it sounds good so the plan is to read it this summer. I’ve started a little bit of it so I’m off to a good start aha.

So here is my camp/summer TBR. I’m hoping I’ll get to them but I’m not sure considering I’ll be busy at camp.

What are books on your summer TBR?

Top Ten Tuesday|Most Anticipated Releases of the Second Half of 2019

Top Ten Tuesday-12.png

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

So many books have been released so far this year and I’m so excited to see what the rest of the year has in store with upcoming releases!

Queen of Ruin by Tracy Banghart

I really liked Grace and Fury and I’m so excited for the sequel!

The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh

I really enjoyed The Wrath & the Dawn and I’m looking forward to reading the sequel and I am also excited for this book to be released! The cover is pretty and it also takes place in the 1800s so already it sounds like an awesome book!

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

I super liked The Night Circus so I’m pumped to read Morgenstern’s next book!

The Fountain of Silence by Ruth Sepetys

Hi so Ruta Sepetys is like one of my all time favorite historical fiction authors and I didn’t even know this book was coming out until I saw people getting arcs of it from BEA and BookCon and I am so excited for it!

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

This book just sounds so epic and good. It also looks like it has a hate to love relationship which is one of my favorite tropes!

So I didn’t exactly reach ten but to my surprise there weren’t many books coming out in the second half that I’m excited for. But watch there be so many releases coming out that I didn’t even realize were coming out😂

What are some upcoming releases that your looking forward too?

Friday Favorites|Books Set in Highschool

Top Ten Tuesday-10

Hey guys, Friday Favorites is hosted by Kibby who started this tag at Something of the Book. And this tag is just a fun way to share some of your favorite things every Friday 🙂

I feel like over half of the YA books take place in high school so choosing a not enormous amount will be a bit difficult aha.

Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda

This book is so. good. and everyone should read it. I love all the Harry Potter references in this book and the characters are so enjoyable!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

I really like this trilogy. I feel like there isn’t really many contemporary series and I was a bit surprise to find one. But I enjoyed it and I do wish there were more contemporary series out there! But I really enjoyed this series and the characters in it and it. I liked that we got more to the story because it wasn’t a standalone but a whole series.

Anna and the French Kiss

This was my favorite book in the series. This is such a quick and nice contemporary book/series. Its easy to fly through and the relationships are all so cute. But the relationship in the first book is my favorite which is why the first book is my favorite in the series. But anyways, this is an enjoyable series and if you haven’t read it and are looking for an easy read, I recommend this series.

What is one of your favorite books set in High School?

Top Ten Tuesday|Favorite Books Released in the Last Ten Years

Top Ten Tuesday-4

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

2018

ugh so many awesome books came out last year but I think I am going to go with Escaping From Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco.

2017

Okay I’m torn between The Hate U Give or Lord of Shadows because I really loved both books but I think I’ll go with The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas because I think I love it just a tid bit more

2016

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys is the book I’m going to go with for this year. I really love this book and its one of my favorite historical fiction books

2015

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is an amazing book and I really love it and I’m so excited for the TV show and yeah, I mean how can I not choose this book aha

2014

Cress by Marissa Meyer was my second favorite book in the series with Winter being the first but Cress is one of my favorite characters in this series

2013

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi is my favorite book in the Shatter Me series because in this book I realized my love for Kenji and um yeah, aha

2012

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas was recommended to me by a person at Barnes and Noble and I’m so glad they did because this was one of the series that got me back into reading

2011

There aren’t a ton of books that were published this year that I’ve read(as far as I believe) but Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare was released this year!

2010

The same thing for 2011 applies for this year but I’m going to go with Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

2009

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins was released this year and it is also my favorite in the series because I just like the action in it more than the other books and also Finnick is introduced in this book

Top Ten Tuesday|Books I Refuse To Let Anyone Touch

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

So like all my books? I mean I don’t really let anyone touch any of my books unless I know they know how to treat a book. But I guess for the sake of this I will choose ten books aha.

City of Bones 10th Anniversary Edition

This book is just so pretty and I couldn’t forgive myself if I let someone untrained in how to treat a book slip through its pages and harmed it in some way. Plus I wouldn’t want them to get it dirty because it is such a pretty book

Throne of Glass Collectors Edition

Another collectors edition because collector editions are just so pretty. I really love this edition because it comes in a pretty case and also the book itself is so pretty. Definitely wouldn’t want anyone to touch it and accidentally do something to it

The Book Thief Signed Edition

The book thief is one of my favorite books and I was so happy when I was able to find a signed copy of it. If my house was burning and I only had like a chance to pick one book to save, I would go with this book. This book just means a lot to me and I really love my signed copy of it

The First Rule by Robert Crais

I mean there really isn’t anything special about this book. Its just a regular, sort of beat up hardcover edition of the book. But it was once my grandpas. I don’t know if he read it but the fact that it used to be his just makes it special to me.

My Hardback Set of Dan Brown Books

I have so many different versions of Dan Brown books. Some are in worse conditions than others and if anyone wants to read or touch those I don’t really care. But come near my very nice set of hardcover version of these and you’ll be met with a very different reaction. I mean in reality there is nothing special about these books but I just love them because I love the author and the books a ton

My Paperbacks

Okay I don’t really care if people touch them as long as they do it CAREFULLY this is more of I don’t want them to read but also touch falls under the category. The only main reason for this is because paperbacks are easily damageable, more so than hardbacks which is why I don’t like anyone reading them and touching but thats not as big as a deal as reading them

The Bad Beginning Signed Edition

I have loved The Series of Unfortunate Events for a good portion of my life and it definitely takes the place for favorite childhood series. So when I got the chance to meet Dan Handler or as he is also known as Lemony Snicket I was beyond happy and it felt like a childhood dream come true. So the signed copy I have of The Bad Beginning holds near and dear to my heart

Books That Are Already Slightly Damaged

I mean, why would I want people to damage them even more. If they are really damaged then I don’t care. But if they are only damaged a small amount then I don’t want anyone touching them in fear of making the books worse.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Chinese Edition

While my Grandparents were away in China, I asked them to find me a Harry Potter book in Chinese and they did! I don’t want anyone touching it because if something happens to it the only way I could get another is online but then it isn’t special like getting it from China

All My Books

Is this cheating? Maybe. But I truly don’t want anyone touching my books. I mean my books are my babies and I don’t really trust anyone else to hold them unless I know they know how to handle a book.

Whats a book you don’t let anyone touch?

Top Ten Tuesday|Insperational/Thought Provoking Book Quotes

IMG_1533.jpegTop Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

I’m super pumped for this top ten Tuesday posts! I keep a notes section in my phone dedicated to book quotes so I’m hoping I won’t have a ton of trouble trying to track down the quotes.

“Hatred is blind and anger deaf: the one who pours himself a cup of vengeance is likely to drink a bitter draught”

This quote is from The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas and I do believe it was said by the Count himself.

“It is not the tree that forsakes the flower, but the flower that forsakes the tree.”

This is also from The Count of Monte Cristo and it is also said by the Count if I remember correctly.

“What is life except a pause in the antechamber of death?”

This is from, you guessed it, The Count of Monte Cristo. I can’t help it though, this book I feel like is filled to the brim with thought provoking quotes.

“It is said that we learn more from our failures than our successes”

This is from The Wicked King by Holly Black

“You can leave home but home never leaves you”

This is from Salvage Rat by Larry N. Martin and I don’t know if this really counts as inspirational or thought provoking but at the same time I kind of feel like it does so I’m just going to keep this quote here

“Words have the power to change the world. Use them carefully”

This is from the book Lily and Dunkin by Donna Gephart

“Theres plenty of sense in nonsense sometimes if you wish to look for it”

Soo, I can’t remember which Infernal Devices book this comes from but its from one of those books by Cassandra Clare and as I’m sure most of us know, this was said my none other than Will Herondale

“Every human life is worth the same, and worth saving”

This is from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

“If we wait until we are ready, we’ll be waiting most of our lives”

From The Ersatz Elevator this quote comes from by the author that is Lemony Snicket.(Does anyone else think that thats such a wonky sentence I wrote?)

“Everything is possible. The impossible just takes longer”

And the last quote of this post is from one of my favorite authors, Dan Brown and this quote comes from his book Digital Fortress.

Books honestly contain so many wonderful inspirational quotes along with thought provoking quotes, I sometimes wonder how an author comes up with them.

So, what is one of your favorite inspirational/thought provoking quote?
