Real Neat Blog Award|I was nominated!

Top Ten Tuesday-45

Hello fellow people reading my blog! I was nominated by Joanna(@thegeekishbrunette) for the Real Neat Blog Award(as you can see from the title). Thank you so much Joanna for this and everyone, make sure to go check out her blog because its positively great!!

(Stole this from Joanna’s post)

The Origins of the Real Neat Blog Award

Before I answer the questions I did a little googling to try and find the origins of this award and the earliest reference I can find to it goes all the way back to 2014 and to a blog called Dear Kitty, Some Blog.

The award came about as a way to highlight bloggers that need more attention because of their awesome content on their blogs and the first logo ever created for the award is this one that I found on the same Dear Kitty, Some Blog page:

  1. Display the award logo
  2. Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog
  3. Answer the questions of the one who nominated you
  4. Nominate some bloggers
  5. Ask them seven questions

The Questions

Why did you decide to start your blog?

Well I saw that a fair amount of bookstagrammers had one and I was like “hey, this seems cool to have” and also that when requesting an ARC, having a blog is really helpful. So I decided to start one and I’ve grown to really enjoy it and I think it has made me a better reader which is pretty cool and I like sharing my thoughts on books.

Whats the worst book you’ve read?

Ooof this is a bit of a hard one. I’ve read a few bad books but I’m not quite sure which of those has been the worst. However, I think I’m going to have to say that Prisoner of Silk by Lidiya Foxglove. The plot for this book sounded interesting and the cover is pretty. But the content of this book fell so so flat. Here is the little mini review I posted on my Goodreads account:

This book had potential. A dark twist on a fairytale, faeries, and a life based on Marie Antoinette, sounds like a pretty good book right? Wrong. This book was full of smut. In the 100 something pages of this book, I counted 7 smut scenes and each one was about 2 pages plus. Also, I think someone needs to put up a missing persons ad for the plot because it was MIA in this book. The plot was so weak I’m not even sure there was even one to begin with. This book could of been something really good but it just fell flat.

I hate the court in this book so much. I mean the rules they have and the expectations they have of their king and queen is disgusting in my opinion. The main character in this book prepares to take on the role of the Queen Who Bowed and I find this role so demeaning. I mean her whole role is basically to pleasure her husband whenever and wherever he wants and to basically bow and submit to her husband. And that just didn’t really sit well with me.

What is your favorite book trope?

This is a no brainer for me. Hate to love is my favorite trope. One sure thing that will most likely make me pick up a book is it having a hate to love trope. One of my favorites with this trope is The Wrath & the Dawn by Renné Ahdieh.

If there was something you could change about any book, what would it be and what is the book?

This question is a thinker aha. The book which I would do the changing in is Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. What I would change is that Livvy would not die at the end! Her death just broke my heart and shocked me and she should not have died so I would make it where she never died!

Do you have any hobbies outside of reading?

Yes! In the spring I swim on my school swim team. I have been swimming on and off my whole life and then just decided my freshman year to join the swim team and I have really loved being on the swim team!

If you could give someone the best piece of advice you have, what would that advice be?

Ahhh I really don’t know this one. Maybe something like don’t die what matters to you for any reason. What I mean by this I guess is like, I’ll just give my example of like myself and this advice. I am Jewish and there are people out there who want to wipe us off the planet but I don’t hide that I am Jewish because those people are out there. I hope this answer makes sense😅

Where would you love to vacation?

There are so many places on my bucket list and more of them are in Europe aha. My top place and the place I would want to visit most in the world and take a vacation to is England but if one wants specifics than London. Ever since watching Doctor Who I have been dying to go and visit London.

Mid-Year Book Freak Out|Tag

Top Ten Tuesday-18.png

Its already the end of July which is just crazy, this summer has definitely gone by fast, along with the year. Its crazy how time flies by but at some times it feels like it goes by so slow.

Since its mid way through the year and the lovely  Ash tagged me to do this tag, I was like why not do it. Thank you Ash for tagging me for this tag 🙂

This tag was originally created by ReadLikeWildfire and Earl Grey Books. So without hesitation, onto the tag!

1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far

I would say the best book so far that I have read this year is The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. If you didn’t already know, this has become one of my new all time favorites. I loved the writing style, the character depths and all the symbolism included in this book. I really loved the plot of this story too. Not only was there the main plot, but there was also all the sub-plots that were just as complex and developed, maybe a little less as the main plot line.

If you want to check out my review click here.

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far This Year

I would say the best sequel I’ve read is Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco. It was a bit hard choosing a book because the few five stars I have read I have really loved but I decided to choose Escaping from Houdini because I really loved the plot and the mystery along with the writing style and the characters. If you haven’t read this series yet, I highly recommend that you do!

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Really Want To

Im so behind on new release because I’ve been on a book ban. However the one that I really want to get to is Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare. I just bought this before I left for camp so when I get back I’m hoping to read it!

4. Most Anticipated Release for Second Half of the Year

Um there really aren’t that much books that are being published in the second half that I’m excited for(wow that sentence was a mouthful lol). However there are a few that I’m looking forward to and those are Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron, The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh, and The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern.

5. Biggest Disappointment of the Year

I’ve read a few things that turned out to be 3 stars but I read one book that just turned out to be such a huge disappointment that I gave it 2 stars. That book was Prisoner of Silk by Lidiya Foxglove. Where do I begin with this book. It was pitched as a sort of Marie Antoinette and Rapunzel mashup. But I didn’t get the Marie Antoinette aspect which made me sad because I was really looking forward to that aspect. Someone needs to put up a missing poster sign because the plot was MIA. There were other issues I had with this book but I really don’t want to turn this into a rant so I’m just going to cut it here.

6. Biggest Surprise

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon is probably the book that took me by surprise. I did not think I was going to enjoy it as much as I did. I loved the plot line of this story and thought it was so complex but in a good way. The world building is just wow like I’m so excited to see it be developed even more in the second and third and all the other books in the series.

7. Favorite New Author(Debut or New to You)

I’m going to go with the author Ali Dean. I’ve read three books by her so far and I have about two more at the moment that I need to read and I’ve enjoyed all of them so far. They aren’t 5 star reads but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy them. I like the stories she writes and I think its unique how they are all sports based. I’m looking forward to read more of her books in the future.

8. Newest Fictional Crush

This year, I have come to love the one and only Thomas Cresswell. I love him so freaking much and I am so excited to read the novella about him!

9. Newest Favorite Character

Um lets see, um I’m not really sure who my newest favorite character is. I think I’m going to skip this question because I really don’t think I have a newest favorite fictional character. Well actually I’ll just go with Audrey Rose because I finished all the published books this year and I really love her.

10. Book That Made You Cry

So far I have read no book that has made me cry. I’m not sure if that’s a bad thing or a good thing aha.

11. Book That Made You Happy

The Distance Between Us by Kasie West was such a nice and lighthearted contemporary book and I read it so fast. It definitely made me happy in the end.

12. Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought or Received This Year

I think Finale by Stephanie Garber is the most beautiful book I’ve bought this year. But I also don’t have my bookshelf in front of me so I’m not 100% sure what other books I’ve bought and what their cover looks like but I do know for sure Finale has a gorgeous cover.

13. What Book Do You Need To Read by the End of the Year

All the books that have been sent to me to review!!! Being at camp as made me really behind on this and its little stressful but I keep telling myself that I have the whole rest of the year ahead of me to read them.

14. Favorite Book Community Member

I don’t think I can choose a specific book community member that is my favorite. I have met so many amazing and nice people in this book community that there is no way I could every choose a favorite. Thank you to everyone who follows, likes, and reads my blog posts and show their support, you all are amazingggg!!

Bloggers Recognition Award

Thank you Whatsinmywonderland for nominating me!!

Why I Started Blogging

So I started a bookstagram about two years back. Upon discovering accounts I noticed that people posted book reviews to their blog and just had a blog overall. And I thought to myself, well I want to try that. So I created my blog! Well lets just say the first time around didn’t go so well. I’m pretty sure the only posts I had up were my introduction post and pictures from my trip to New York. Pretty soon I forgot about my blog and I sort of just fell out of it. Now onto round two. I remember I have a blog and I want to start it up again. I don’t really remember how many blog posts I made this time around but again, I fell out of it. So about a year passes and I’m starting to I guess find my footing in the community and real get the hang of running my account and I getting more involved in the community. And I realize I want to start my blog up back again. And so I do. And this time I stick to it! I’ve really come to love blogging and writing book reviews. Its a nice way for me to really finalize my thoughts on a book. It’s also got me thinking more about a book, its plot, its character and even the writing of the author because before I didn’t do that. I used to just sort of read a book without really thinking about it and now that I have a blog in which I post book reviews, I am now thinking about the book and what makes up this book.

Advice for New Bloggers

  • Okay so first of all, do not worry about how many views you get and stuff too much. If you worry too much about how your stats are and you put out content just to help your stats you’ll start to feel a sort of disconnect from your blog. Your blog should be about what you love and you should write about what you like to do beceause then it will be more enjoyable.
  • If a post/segment you do on your blog doesn’t get a ton of views, likes, and comments, don’t stop doing it because of that. I do month wrap-ups on my blog and they don’t do as well as some of my other posts but I still do them because I like to do them. Stop doing something because you want to stop doing it, because you don’t feel connected to it. Don’t stop doing something because it isn’t doing so well on the view factor.

Seven Things I Like In A Book|Book Tag

I was tagged by Georgia(whatsinmywonderland) to share 7 things that I like in a book

1) Pretty Chapter Headers

I loooooooove it when books have pretty chapter headers. The Wicked King has some A+ chapter headers along with Ever the Brave!

2) Maps

I mean, who doesn’t love a good map. I love being able to see where the character(s) are and how far they are traveling and whatnot. Plus they are always really pretty, like is there even a book that doesn’t have a pretty map??

3) Strong Friendships

I love when characters have a strong friendship. I feel like for some books, the parts that make me laugh the most are when the main character is interacting with their friend(s). The friend group in Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda is one of my favorites!

4) Good Family Relationship

I love a book where the character has a good relationship with their family. I feel like a a good amount of YA books don’t have the good family relationship and its refreshing to see a book have it.

5) Art

I absolutely looove it when a book has art included in it. Sometimes(okay most of the time) I suck a picturing characters in my head so having art included in the book and seeing someone else interpretation of the characters just helps me. Plus it adds a little something extra to the book

6) Epilogues

I am a big fan of epilogues. I love getting just a little bit more of the characters before I end the book and seeing what they are up to and where they are in the future. Plus they prolong the book so yay for that!

7) Deckled Edges

Okay technically this isn’t really in a book its something a book has but we are just gonna let it slide. Deckled edges I feel like you either hate them or love them and I am on the love them side. I love how they make a book look like a book from the olden days(in my opinion). I also love running my thumb over them and how they feel. Plus I think they just look nice and give the book a little something more.

I now tag

Disney Song Book Tag

img_0444Hey everyone, I was tagged a while back for the Disney Song Book tag and I am just now getting to it. Anyways I am super excited to do this, thank you @cindyranreviews for tagging me!

I tag: @mabookyard
and @thenatureofpages

So, I say, lets get on with the tag!

A whole new world- pick a book that made you see the word differently

Hmm. For this I am going to chose The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. This book was such an amazing book. It most definitely opened up my eyes to what is happening in the world today and made me see things differently

Cruella de vil- pick your favorite villain

Not how can I ever chose a favorite, there are so many awesome villains out there. Okay, Im going to do top 5 because I don’t know if I could ever chose(in no particular order). Sebastian Moregenstern, fun fact, my friend and I will call each other different villains sometimes and he’s usually one of the first to be mentioned. Queen Levana, Legend(is he a villain? he is right?), the Darkling, and lastly, Captain Hook(not the once from OUAT).

Won’t say I’m in love- pick a book you didn’t want to admit you loved

Hmm, I’m not sure to be honest. I don’t think I would ever hide a book that I loved. Just because most people didn’t like it, doesn’t mean I am going to, if I loved a book that most people didn’t like, I don’t think I would hide it. And I say think because I’m honestly not quite sure of a book that I loved that has pretty negative reviews

Gaston- pick a character that you couldn’t stand

Who oh who do I chose *does the stroking chin with hand motion* For this, I am going to chose Adam from the Shatter Me series. Now in the beginning, I did like him. But I think it was between book two or three that I really started to dislike him and started to not being able to stand him. He just got so frustrating as a character and I just could. not. stand. him.

Part of your world- pick a book set in a universe you could live in

Nooo don’t make me chose. Okay, I am going to go with maybe a super obvious and uncommon one but that would be Hogwarts. I honestly can just see myself fitting in there. But also, who wouldn’t want to fit in there am I right.

A dream is a wish your heart makes- describe what the book of your dreams would be like

*cue this song being stuck in my head for eternity* Okay so I think the book of my dreams would involve a main Jewish character and it isn’t a historical fiction novel. Like seriously, I feel like there needs to be more contemporary novels where there is a main Jewish character and Judaism plays a main front in their lives. Honestly, any book like that would probably be my dream book

Someday my prince will come- what book character would you marry if you could

*scrolls through list full of book boyfriends* No I don’t really have a list, but maybe I should start one. Anyways, there are so many book characters I would want to marry, I don’t know if I could chose. How about I don’t chose and skip this question, yeah that sounds like a good idea. No, i can’t do that, um okay I’ll just chose uhh, yeah no, I’m just going to skip

I see the light- pick a book that changed your life

For this I am going with The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This book just changed me. I think it was my first real heavy topic kind of book and I read it at a pretty young age I think for what its intended audience is. But I can’t really put a pinpoint on how, but it definitely changed my life

When you wish upon a star- pick a book you wish you could reread for the first time

I think I’m going to chose another common answer which is Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. There is just something about reading Harry Potter for the first time that I feel that you can’t feel again when you reread it.

I just can’t wait to be king- pick a book with some mind of monarchy in it

I am going to chose the Shadow and Bone trilogy by Leigh Bardugo because we got the royal highness himself, Nikolai in this book woot woot. Also like you haven’t heard it before, basically the whole Grishaverse is getting adapted by Netflix and I cannot wait!!

Colors of the wind- pick a book with a beautiful cover

Too many books have beautiful covers but I am going with Caraval and Legendary by Stephanie Garber. These covers for these books are just STUNNING like omg.

So there you have it, hope you enjoyed this tag and even if you weren’t tagged, feel free to do this tag if you want!

Voted Most Likely Writers Tag

IMG_4645Y’all I would just like to say that this tag looks like fun and I have so many characters to choose from!

What it is:

Choosing from among your own original characters, answer the below questions based on which character best suits the answer, then explain your choice.

1) thank lovely blogger who tagged you

Ally, thank you for tagging me!! I am super excited to do this challenge!

2) include the link

Check out Ally’s answers to the challenge Here

3) use your own original characters. Don’t use a friend’s characters or characters from your favorite fandom. They can be from any project, as long as you’ve created them. For extra fun, try and use a different character for every challenge

4) tag at least five different bloggers

Now! onto the challenge

Most likely to be a poet:

Alrighty, I think my character Melody is most likely to be a poet. Melody is the best friend to my main character in one of my stories. She loves to write and is very humble. So I think that Melody would most likely become a poet.

Most likely to dance in the rain:

This is easy. Kaia is from my story titled Elements for now. Basically, people have elements and they live within the earth. Kaia’s element is water so she is definitely going to be the most likely to dance in the rain.

Most likely to look good in a kilt:

hmm. I feel like Byron could definitely pull off a kilt. Byron is from my shortly worked on story called Earth to Heaven and Back. Basically the main character dies and goes to heaven but she isn’t suppose to be there so her and Byron work to get her back to Earth.

Most likely to get punched in the face:

For this I would have to chose Jake. Jake is also from Earth to Heaven and Back. His background is he is your typical bad boy. Doing drugs, drinking, all that stuff so he is definitely the most likely one to get punched for doing something stupid while intoxicated

Most likely to drop everything and become a sheep herder

Wow, what a random question. However I think Cedar would do this. He is from the untitled elements story and he’s a very old man and I could just see him dropping everything to be a sheep herder

Most likely to be found in the library

This would be Ben who is from an old story titles Loving the Nerd in which the popular girl falls for the new nerd guy. Ben is a “nerd” so there is no doubt in my mind that he would most likely be found in a library

Most likely to sleep through an earthquake

For this, this would be Mother Nature from my elements story. Considering how old she is, I would not be surprised if she help through an earthquake.

Most likely to steal food from another person’s plate

I think Kai would do this, he is from a story in which the main guy character scams the main girl character. He’s just that person where if he feels close enough with you, you could be looking at a candy bar, and then next minute its gone.

Most likely to cheat on a test

Holden is a character from a book I’m writing where he scams a girl. Considering he’s running a bit of a scam, I wouldn’t run it past him to cheat on a test.

Most likely to say oops after setting something on fire

Ash is from my elements story and his element is fire. Since his element is fire, he sets many things on fire, sometimes on purpose and sometimes on accident. He is also a joker so if he lights something on fire I would not be surprised if he started laughing, look at Mother Nature’s stern face and then with puppy dog eyes, say “oops.”(anyone else think that was weirdly descriptive)

Most likely to open an orphanage

Hmm. I wouldn’t put it past Thea, once again from my elements story, to open an orphanage. She’s a very kind and has a free spirit personality. So if anyone was to open an orphanage, she would be the most likely.

Most likely to run off with the circus.

Marie from my earth to heaven and back story would run off with the circus. In the story she is battling cancer so as a last spontaneous thing, she would probably run off with the circus

Most likely to survive the zombie apocalypse

I think Morana would survive since her element is a more mutant element, death. So considering she make people die with a simple point, I think she’d do just fine in the apocalypse.

Most likely to fake their own death

For this I would say Ivy. She’s from a super old story where she is a long lost princess who is being hunted by the current king of her kingdom. When she was little her parents faked her own death so since she has some practice in the field, I wouldn’t put it past her to do it again.

Most likely to die and haunt their friends

*raises own hand* ME! haha, for real though I want to be a ghost and haunt people, hopefully in a library. But back to the matter at hand. Dave from the scaling story would haunt his friends. He is the class clown and is very carefree, he takes things as they come. He also likes to play pranks so if he died he would most likely find a way to haunt his friends.

Stranger Things Book Tag

IMG_4452.jpegCalling all lovers of Stranger Things! I am such a big fan of Stranger Things like Mileven all the way!!! So when I came across this tag on abooknerdreads blog.I  just knew I had to do it. So you guys should totally go check out the one she did here. So, without further ado, let the tag begin before the demogorgon comes for us all.

Epic Intro: a book that grabbed your attention on the first page.

A book that captivated me on the first page was What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera. I read the first page at the end of Leah on the Offbeat and I just had this feeling that I’m going to love this book(which I did) and that was all within reading the first page. It didn’t necessarily grab my attention in a way where I was like omg this is going to be such an epic way I’m never putting this book down. But more in a I know this is going to be such a cute read I must read this asap.

Dungeons and Dragons: a fantasy world you would like to experience yourself

So the obvious and most basic choice would be Hogwarts. See, usually I would put that but I’m in the mood to mix things up. So I’m going to chose Prythian post war. More specifically I would want to either live in the Night Court or my own court, the Day Court.

Squad Goals: name your favorite bookish friends

I feel like the a basic answer would be the Inner Circle because who doesn’t love them all. But I am going to chose a non-basic answer and say Simon, Bram, Leah, Abby, and Nick from Simon vs. The HomoSapiens Agenda and Leah on the Offbeat. I love this group of friends and during the whole book I just wished I was friends with them.

ABC’s and Christmas Lights: favorite mentally unhinged character

Hmm I have to think about this. Okay so I don’t know if this character counts but I’m going to say Warner. I mean he isn’t mentally unhinged per say but lets just say he does have some issues…

The Upside Down: book that was opposite of what you expected

So for this one I think I’m going to chose My Sister’s Keeper. So this book swept me by surprise. I did not think I was going to read it. I was given it to read by someone I know and because I had to give it back to them in a certain amount of days, I decided to read it. This book isn’t exactly my cup of tea but oh my gosh I loved it. I expected it to go in this completely different direction and the ending just took me by surprise.

Mad Scientist: name the freakiest government you can think of

I’ve read a few dystopian books in my days and I have read about some weird governments. One that strikes as not necessarily the freakiest but definitely the most messed up is the government in The Hunger Games. Like seriously, what government makes kids kill kids.

Demogorgon: scary book creature that you would not want to go through your walls

Is there really any hesitation to this question? Like hello, Dementors can stay the freak away from me and my house. Like under no circumstances do I want those creepy creatures near me. I ain’t about the getting my soul sucked out of me life

Cliffhanger Ending: book that left you wanting more

Sarah J. Maas I’m looking at you tenor.gif

The ending of Empire of Storm left me just I don’t even know how to put this in words. Empty? Heartbroken? All around destroyed? Like I just need so much more after that ending. Can Kingdom of Ash please get here sooner. I’m terrified to read it but I just need to know that everyone is going to be okay(even though we all know thats only a dream and so not going to happen).

So that is the end of the tag, hope you didn’t hate it. Let me all know, for those who have watched it, who your favorite character is. And if you haven’t watched it, I recommend you do 🙂
