April Wrap-Up|2020

Top Ten Tuesday-54

So I thought April was this terrible reading month but looking back on it, it wasn’t bad. It ended up turning out like one of my normal reading months which is great! I thought I ended up reading about 6 books but instead I read 8! So, onto the books I read in April!

Roar by Cora Carmack

This book took me a little bit to get into but I ended up enjoying it. I liked the characters in the book but my favorite part was the magic system. I think the magic system in this book is a unique spin on elemental magic. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I gave this 3.5/5 stars.

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

This was the first book I started and finished in April and I really liked it. In the beginning of the book I did not like Auden(the main character) but by the end of the book I felt the opposite. There is the topic of grief in this book and it is something I wished Sarah Dessen explored a little more. I gave this 4/5 stars.

Empire of Dust by Elenor Herman

This is the second book in the Blood of Gods and Royals series and I did not love it as much as I loved the first. I think this book suffered from second book syndrome which is a bit sad. The first book grabbed my interest from the beginning but reading this book I just kept waiting for that to happen and it never did. I will continue with the series however with hopes that it will be better than book 2. I gave this 3/5 stars.

Brazen Rush by Ali Dean

This was an okay book. Something I think I’ve noticed as I’ve continued to read Dean’s books is her characters are very one dimensional. I feel as if she tries to insert dimension into them but it falls flat in my opinion. Jordan was an alright main character, I don’t really have any good or bad feelings toward her, mainly just neutral vibes. I did not like the love interest in this book, Beckett. I gave this 2.5/5 stars.

The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White

I’ve seen mixed reviews about this so I was curious as to what side I would fall on. I am sad that I feel on the not loving it so much side because I really did want to love this book, or at least like it. I think the main issue I had with this book was the pacing it. The pacing was just too slow for me and then all of a sudden at the end it just picked up out of nowhere and I felt thrown off course. I gave this 3/5 stars.

Bear with Me by Lucy Eden

This was weird, but cute. The romance in this book is cute and I was all for it! I have to say though, the little plot twist in this book was just weird to me, felt a bit out of placed. I gave this 3/5 stars.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare

I didn’t love this😭😭😭 I wanted to love this collection of stories so. damn. bad. but it just didn’t happen and I am so sad about it! Some of the stories in there I liked, like the one where Alec goes to Buenos Aires, I think that one might have been my favorite. I found the last one to be confusing, is Cassandra Clare trying to use it to lead into a new series in the future? Like how the stories with the Chain of Gold characters fill in some backstory for Chain of Gold. I gave this 4/5 stars.

They Went Left by Monica Hesse

This was the book I ended the month with and I couldn’t have ended the month on a better note! I loved this book so much, the writing was beautiful and I loved every minute of reading this book. This book takes place after liberation and not many books do that so this book is unique in that sense. All the characters in this book are developed, even the background characters. I gave this book 5/5 stars.

So those were all the books I read in the month of April! Pretty happy with the amount I read, much more than I thought I actually read aha.
