September Wrap-Up|2019

Top Ten Tuesday-33.png

Hope everyone has had a good September! My reading was pretty good this month, way better than I thought! I read 10 books this month which I am quite happy with, now onto those nine books!

The book I started the month off with was Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson. I loved this book so much! This was just the book I needed to get me back into the mood to read fantasy. I really loved the characters in this and how they were all well developed, even the background characters! I found the world in this very interesting and unique. I have a full review of the book here! I gave this 5/5 stars.

Still in the mood for some fantasy I picked up a recent purchase of mine which was Nocturna by Maya Motayne. I really enjoyed this book. The beginning was a little slow and it was a bit hard for me to get into. However once it picked up I was really into it. I am pretty sure this is book one in a series and with the ending of this book I am not quite sure what the plot for the second book is going to be. The magic was a little confusing to me and I wish the author better explained it. The characters were quite enjoyable, I really liked Finn. I gave this a 4/5 star rating.

My next read was one of my most anticipated releases of the year… Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco. I adore this series so much and I love all the books. This was such an amazing conclusion to the series and I couldn’t put it down. I told myself I was going to savor it and read it slow but I ended up finishing it in about two days. I loved Maniscalco’s writing a ton and I think it is very beautiful and just super well down. Love love love the characters in this book and their banter is my absolute favorite. I gave this 5/5 stars.

FaeCrate hosted a TBR Readathon and I decided to take part! The first book I read for this  readathon was A Match Made in Mehendi by Nandini Bajpai. This was an enjoyable and cute contemporary read. The basis of the plot was nothing extremely unique and the writing wasn’t anything enjoyable. The main character Simi wasn’t a bad main character. At times she would get a little annoying but would quickly redeem herself, she was a very I guess believable character. If you want to read more of my thoughts on this book you can check out my review here.

The second book I read was Skandal by Lindsay Smith. I don’t really have many thoughts on this book. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t super enjoy it. The whole power thing in this book was still confusing at times. There were points in this book where things happen very fast and I was a bit confused on what was happening. The ending was rushed as well and I’m still not 100% how the ending came to be. I gave this a 3/5 star rating.

Third I read Dead End Dating by Kimberly Raye. This book took me by surprise, I didn’t think I was going to enjoy it as much as I did. This book is “pitched” as a romance book but there wasn’t much romance which left me a little disappointed. I really enjoyed the main character in this book, I think it is because of her I gave this book the rating I did. If you want to read more on my thoughts just click here to read my review. I gave this a 4/5 star rating.

Next I finally picked up this very controversial read, Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan. I didn’t hate this book but I also didn’t love it. The world building was a bit poorly done in my opinion. The plot I found to also be boring up until the very end which was the only part I found myself really engaged. I didn’t understand the whole magic system and felt that it wasn’t exactly explained or if it was it wasn’t done well. I didn’t really attach or care about any of the characters. But I did like how the characters were complex. I wish we got to have more interaction with some of the background characters, felt a little like the author spent so much time on the main characters that they didn’t really spend any time on the background. I gave this 3/5 stars.

Next I picked up Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman. This was my first Shusterman book and I am happy to say it is not my last. My absolute favorite part about this book was the writing. I found this writing to be so beautiful and poetic at times. The whole aspect of this book is really amazing and the way it is composed is just wow. It is kind of hard to put my thoughts for this book into words. I gave this 5/5 stars.

The last book I read for the readathon was Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman. This was an enjoyable fantasy read. My favorite part was the world building in this book. The book takes place in ancient Greece and Herman does such a good job describing the world! One thing that I didn’t like was the amount of P.O.V.S there were over four point of views throughout the book and it was a little confusing. Some of the characters were on their own plot line and I didn’t understand why they were in the book. I am sure they will come into play in the next book but I think it would of been better had their story started in the next book where their plot line will come into play. There is magic in this book but it isn’t really mentioned until the end. I don’t completely understand the magic and what people with it can do but I think/hope it will be further explained in the following books. I gave this 4/5 stars.

The last book I read for the month was Saints and Misfits by S. K. Ali. This was a heavy book in my opinion. There are a few different issues going on in this book and the main character is trying to deal with it all. Ali painted and created a very realistic character. I was amazed by how real Janna seemed to me. Ali’s writing is nice and I enjoyed it. I gave this 4/5 stars.

Those were all the books I read for September!

How many books did you end up reading last month?
