There are a plenty of reasons we all decide to pick up a book. And today I am going to talk about the top ten things that make me want to pick up a book!
I feel like this is a bit of a no brainer. We are all attracted to pretty things and books with pretty covers are no exceptions. A big weakness for me is when the covers are sort of shiny and will glimmer in the sun. If they have that I’m a goner aha.
If its signed, especially a signed first edition, I just need it. I may or may not have boughten a book just because it was a signed edition and a) I wasn’t interested in it and b) i already owned an edition of it but I am always looking to expand my signed collection!
I’m looking straight at you Barnes and Noble! I mean how can one even pass up an exclusive edition.
Hate to Love Trope
This is my favorite trope! I have very little restraint when I come across a book with the hate to love trope.
Some books have hype surrounding them when they are published or before they are even published. And I am one to often get sucked in and end up buying the book. I feel like a good chunk of the books on my shelves are books I bought because of the hype.
If any of my friends recommend a book to me theres a pretty good chance I’m going to pick it up. One of my friends and I have pretty similar reading taste so if she likes the book theres a good chance I will too.
If its an author that I’ve previously read and loved then I’m probably going to pick up their next published work.
This more pertains to historical fiction novels. If it is set around the 1500s, 1800s, or WWII, there is a high chance I am going to read it because I love those times periods a ton.
If an author I love and admire blurbs a book, you bet I’m picking it up. I know everyone has different reading tastes and don’t always like the same book but I feel like if the author loves it, why shouldn’t I?
I fee like this is another self explanatory one. If the book doesn’t sound interesting to me, why would I not want to pick it up? The synopsis is the most important thing to me and sets up mainly if I end up picking up the book or not. If the synopsis draws me in, I’m going to pick it up.
So, what makes you pick up a book?
